WHAT IS SPECIAL EDUCATION?

Special education refers to a learning program that aims at helping children with disabilities get additional support in their academic activities.  These disabilities can be different. For example, some may have trouble reading (dyslexia) or may have physical problems, or may learn at a slower rate.  Special education gives these students personalized teaching and support to do well in school and in making friends. This will most likely include different methods of teaching, additional aiding devices, changes in the teaching environment, and collaborating with specialist teachers and therapists. This very fact that each student is unique gives them the power to overcome their weaknesses, do their best, excel, and develop their potentials.
