Ataxic cerebral palsy is of developmental origin and affects the movement of children. It is another type of cerebral palsy. It results in balance and coordination complications since some of the brain region related to the same is affected. “Ataxic” means coordination has been disrupted, “Cerebral” means an issue originating in the brain, and “Palsy” is to denote weakness in muscles.
Ataxic cerebral palsy is a neurological disorder that affects children, and in addition to other symptoms, they struggle to move their muscles without co-ordination and also have balance issues. They are weakened and shaky for functions which require fine motor control like writing or holding small items. Ataxic CP influences hands, arms, legs, feet, eyes, speech and it also worsens with time as in the case with the worsening of CP with age.
