WHAT ARE GROSS MOTOR SKILLS?

Gross motor skills are activities that young children develop as they progress through different ages. By the time children are two years old, they are able to walk, run, stand, climb the stairs and so on. All these skills advance and become refined as they progress yet again. Gross motor skills involve large muscle groups and full-body movements, developing in a head-to-toe order: first they learn to move the head, then trunk and at last they are ready to stand and walk. The results also show that playing outside helps kids develop their gross motor abilities, which helps them in the classroom. These abilities keep growing throughout children and into adulthood.
