WHAT IS VISUAL MOTOR INTEGRATION?

Visual motor integration (VMI) is the integration of visual processing and fine motor skills movement. It’s how children are able to trace shapes, write on the lines, or catch and throw balls. Poor coordination of VMI can impact the ability to write, draw and perform other tasks requiring hand-eye coordination. Treatment activities include puzzles, tracing and games that enhance eye-hand coordination, visual tracking and motor planning. Enhancing VMI contributes to the development of fine motor skills and being ready for learning, whilst providing them with confidence in their school and play experiences. Practice develops enhancement in spatial consciousness, control and precision in both reactive and inventive daily practice.
