What is Motor Planning?

Motor Planning, or praxis, is the ability to conceive and plan a motor act, and then execute it. It’s an ability critical in many tasks-including tying shoelaces or riding a bicycle.

Steps of Motor Planning

  1. Ideation: Knowing what to do
  2. Planning: Forming a plan for accomplishing it
  3. Execution: Performing the movement.

Sometimes, in conditions like dyspraxia, there is difficulty in planning motor activity. In the practice of repetition and guidance, therapies can enhance these skills for everyday use.
