Cerebral palsy (CP) refers to a group of non-progressive brain injuries that affect movement and muscle postural tone or teamwork and can be detected at birth or within the first five years of the child’s life. This is due to the damage or developmental disturbance in the brain thereby affecting the motor control, balance or coordination. The first word “cerebral” arises from the brain and the other word “palsy” signifies a condition where an individual cannot control his/her muscles.
Occasionally it is associated with congenital disorders of motor coordination structures in the brain before birth. In other cases the harm is caused at a later stage of the fetus development, during delivery or after the birth of a child.
